Message from the Executive Director
Retailers’ Dedication Reinforces
Texas
Lottery Core Values
Since its inception in 1992, the Texas Lottery Commission has focused
on generating revenue for the state of
Texas
. Proceeds, which were originally allocated to the General Revenue
Fund, have been earmarked for
Texas
education through the Foundation School Fund since 1997. During
Fiscal Year (FY) 2007, the agency contributed more than $1 billion to the fund for the fourth
consecutive year. The agency would not have accomplished this feat without the dedicated teams
working to provide top-notch customer service at each retail location. I want to personally thank
you for your efforts. Due in no small part to your hard work, the Texas Lottery
® posted sales in excess of $3.774 billion during FY 2007 (according to unaudited
figures).
The Texas Lottery upholds certain core values in the management and
sale of lottery products. These include: integrity and responsibility, innovation, fiscal
accountability, customer responsiveness, teamwork and excellence. Our values inform the decisions
of the agency at every level.
By bringing a spirit of innovation to the Games of Texas
®, the agency seeks to provide the citizens of
Texas
with the best entertainment experience available through our
products. The $50 scratch-off ticket,
$130 Million Spectacular, was the first of its kind in
North America
. Our agency performed the necessary market research and, as a
result, developed a product with the potential of setting a new national standard.
Customer responsiveness also played its part in the success of the
$50 instant ticket. In fact, two years of research helped mold that product into its final
form.
Similarly, the agency developed an entirely new drawings game based
on feedback from
Pick 3™ players.
Daily 4™ introduced the first pair-play option for the Texas Lottery. It also launched a
new add-on feature called
Sum It Up™, which allows players to win prizes based on the sum of the numbers drawn.
Later, the
Pick 3 game offered
Sum It Up as well, bringing that feature to the very players who helped develop it.
By responding to customers and seeking out innovation, the Texas
Lottery attempts to keep its products fresh as the lottery matures. Retailers are an important part
of this process, providing feedback and acting as ambassadors for the agency.
Thank you all for your hard work and commitment. I hope to continue
strengthening our partnership in support of
Texas
education. |
